Richard Lockyer. Connect.

Richard spent thousands on platforms, job boards, and networking, but received little in return. As an aspiring consultant, he understood the power of business development and sales. He began his campaign back in April 2024, focusing on boat building companies—a personal and professional passion—as well as kitchen and furniture manufacturers.

We identified a trade show in Southampton and reviewed exhibitors from the past two years, allowing us to find companies that perfectly matched his interests. From the first group, we secured three interviews for him. One of these opportunities stood out, resulting in a dinner invitation with the team, conveniently located only 20 miles from where he lives. He developed a strong rapport with them, and over the following weeks, Richard and our founder, John, worked on a proposal that secured Richard a consultancy day rate.

Sam presented a more challenging case. When we initially spoke with him in March 2024 and explained our process, he was unsure how he could leverage his 35 years of experience in the legal sector, thinking that a strong financial background was necessary to be a Non-Executive Director. We discussed his experience further, and our team reviewed his LinkedIn profile and extensive 15-page CV. We provided Sam with targeted insights into the types of companies best aligned with his experience and gave his LinkedIn profile a complete refresh, as it was very bare and outdated when he first contacted us.

After seven days of preparation, we launched Sam's campaign in April. Within the first group, he received a response from the Expert Witness Institute. Sam worked closely with John to prepare for the initial interview, which was followed by a committee interview. The Chairman requested a CV, which we condensed from 15 pages to 2, reformatting and tailoring it to suit the role. We covered all the due diligence for him, ensuring he knew exactly where he could add value to the organisation.

After the second interview, Sam was offered the role and signed the agreement on 13th June. He is now working with them as a Non-Executive Director, dedicating two days a month to the role, and will be appointed on Companies House shortly. While I can't disclose the remuneration, I can say that Sam was very pleased.

Following the overhaul of Sam's LinkedIn profile, his engagement increased dramatically, with over a 180% increase in profile views within the first two weeks. Shortly after the initial conversation with the Expert Witness Institute, a member of the senior leadership team of CPD approached Sam, complimenting him on his profile and wanting to discuss potential legal training sessions in November for two large groups. Again, he worked with John to put together a proposal and the contract was signed in May. If all goes well, more work will follow.
